Sarah Jo Burke
Sarah's stage experience dates back to childhood in the 60's when she was a member of the internationally acclaimed Burke Family Singers. For 12 years she sang, toured and recorded with the group, appeared on television in more than a dozen specials and on variety shows such as the Jack Paar, Mike Douglas and Ed Sullivan shows.
Later, she was part of the musical duo, "LiSare" and for 10 years performed and recorded original songs as well as acoustic, folk, blues, jazz and traditional Irish music in concert halls, pubs and resorts across New England and the Midwest.
Sarah Jo is the author of Don't Think It Hasn't Been Fun; the Story of the Burke Family Singers (2003, Limelight Editions, N.Y.), a book about her performing childhood. Like her father and grandfather, she sings and plays music (on flute and guitar) in church. In addition to original liturgical music, her compositions include songs, scores for theatrical productions As You Like It, Iphigenia at Aulis and Tauris, The Golden Age, Twelfth Night, The Essential Kid and Playboy of the Western World, and the musical score for a CD of original poetry by Rhonda Lee (Smart Studios). She performs in concert, in taverns, libraries, senior centers and for private functions. She gives book talks and has narrated an audio version of her book, which includes Burke Family Singers music.
